Türkiye aims to play an active role on a global scale in the fields of environment and climate by placing the Zero Waste vision at the center of climate diplomacy. The Zero Waste Movement has gained international recognition through its focus on reducing waste, improving resource efficiency, and promoting the circular economy.
Türkiye aims to deliver the COP31 United Nations Climate Change Conference, to be held in 2026, as a benchmark event in terms of sustainability. Within this context, the “Sustainable COP31 Framework”, developed by the Zero Waste Foundation, aims to reduce the event’s carbon footprint, optimize resource use, and ensure that environmental performance is measurable for all stakeholders.
One of the key components of the framework is a digital sustainability platform that offers technology-based solutions to prevent waste generation, increase recycling rates, reduce food waste, and expand the use of circular materials. The platform includes smart waste monitoring systems, digital waste management applications, sustainable procurement protocols to reduce single-use products, and individual carbon footprint calculation modules for participants.
Designed in line with the United Nations’ sustainable event standards, this approach aims to position COP31 not only as a climate conference but also as a model sustainable mega-event that can serve as an example for large-scale international events worldwide.
